13:20:04 From Peter Chynoweth : https://distrowatch.com - a website that lists many, many different versions of linux - some of them "purpose built" to deal with specific applications or interests
13:20:47 From Peter Chynoweth : Linux Mint is a very popular version of Linux that you will see is the highest ranking one on distrowatch.com
13:21:49 From Peter Chynoweth : Linux Mint is relatively easy for "former" Windows users to use because many of the concepts are very similar.
13:24:10 From Peter Chynoweth : Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce are all "window managers" - they are the way that Linux does Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) - Windows only has one (1) window manager - it is uncreatively called "Windows".
13:25:50 From Peter Chynoweth : One thing you will notice about Linux is that there are many options for just about any aspect of the computer. But don't let the options scare you away - if you install a version of Linux - for example Linux Mint - you will have just about everything you need to use your computer for everything you want to do - for many, many more years!
13:27:50 From Mike Latta : Waterloo is the fastest
13:29:02 From Peter Chynoweth : Where you are in the world may have some bearing on which Mirror you will use - some will be faster for different areas of the planet!
13:31:34 From Peter Chynoweth : The test drive is usually called "Live" - it runs the operating system from the thumb drive and the memory on the computer. It lets you see what Linux looks like - and confirms that Linux will work on your computer.
13:33:09 From Peter Chynoweth : Linux and Windows on the same computer is called "Dual Boot". When you start your computer you will get a boot menu that asks you to choose which operating system you want to use.
13:35:43 From Peter Chynoweth : Martin has written about this in a series of articles that are available on the website of the United Church Rural Ministry Network. Here are some links for you to follow:

Yes. 13:54:55 From Peter Chynoweth : Found this on the web: Magewell Ultra Stream HDMI The Magewell Ultra Stream family of encoders is designed for easy live streaming and recording, and it's compatible with a variety of Linux operating systems. These encoders allow you to stream to platforms like YouTube, Facebook Live, and Twitch, or to custom RTMP/RTMPS servers. 13:55:39 From Barry Rawn : thank you. 13:56:14 From Mike Latta : Replying to "does Ultrastream, wh..." If you are using / configuring the Ultrastream through a web browser (webGUI) that will work using Linux Mint using Firefox. I would test using Firefox on your WIndows machine first to make sure you can do everything that you need to do and if so, Firefox on Linux Mint is no different. Hope that helps. 13:56:41 From Rev. Richard : Do you know of a current working fix to get Zoom to run natively under wayland? 13:57:24 From Peter Chynoweth : I think Zoom is working using Wayland on my Desktop and Laptop Lenovo computers. 13:57:35 From Phyllis Fleming : Where do you get wine? 13:58:27 From Rev. Richard : hmm... Zoom always just fails, I have had to resort to web-browser mode, it works but is less than ideal 13:58:28 From Peter Chynoweth : Wine is available from the Software Manager - but don't use it from there - go to WineHQ website instead! 13:59:26 From Rev. Richard : Arch, with Sway as my DE. 14:00:08 From Rev. Richard : Myself? no, I am not George's son, sorry 14:00:13 From Mike Latta : Replying to "Do you know of a cur..." I can confirm that Linux Mint works on Cinnamon, MATE and LFCE desktops. I have not used personally the Wayland desktop. I'm involved with the Zoom Community forum as one of their champions and Wayland is a known issue. 14:07:03 From Rev. Richard : I have, this has some good info, but the wayland tips are for a different issue unfortunately, thanks for checking 14:08:34 From Mike Latta : Reacted to "I have, this has som..." with 👍🏻 14:09:55 From Barry Rawn : is using Linux much different from using Windows such as folders etc? 14:10:16 From Erin : Will accounting software work on Linux? 14:11:23 From Eric Skillings : I will send the chat with the video and Peter will make it available on the web site. 14:11:40 From Peter Chynoweth : What accounting software - there is probably something that will work as well - or it may be available using WINE... 14:12:16 From Peter Chynoweth : Jitsi Meet is the way that Martin and I met to plan today's workshop! He's in PEI and I am in Alberta! 14:12:18 From Erin : How do you spell this? 14:12:27 From Edith Gardell : Reacted to "How do you spell thi..." with 👍 14:12:38 From Erin : got it 14:14:27 From Mike Latta : Replying to "Will accounting soft..." The easiest way to answer if your software will work is if you can use Google Chrome, Firefox or Edge to "run" your software then it will work on Linux. If the software was bought / made specifically for Windows then it may make work with WINE. 14:17:46 From George Bott (he, him) : \Liinux user - ubuntu 14:17:47 From Martin : Linux user since 2010 14:18:08 From Edith Gardell : Would like to ,but am not yet 14:18:09 From Peter Chynoweth : Ubuntu 8.04 was my first install! 14:18:25 From George Bott (he, him) : Ooo Accounting open source 14:18:28 From D.
